Text Wrap off, still wrapping

Postby gourmetdelights » Sun Jan 10, 2016 5:18 pm

Using: ShopSite® Pro 12 sp2 r1 and the Modern.sst template.

I've turned off text wrapping in:

1. Preferences >> Page Defaults
2. Preferences >> Product Defaults
3. and in individual Product Layout

Yet when you go to a "More Info page" like this:

http://69.39.225.186/4-in-1-falling-blocks.html

the text is still wrapped.

Changing the image size (smaller) gets rid of the scroll bar, BUT the text wrapping still occurs.

Where can I turn off the text wrapping?

Thanks.

The description text is put in a div, <div class="prod_moredescription">, but there is no style defintion for prod_moredescription. You will need to add that style to the css that is included on the pages and set the width of the div so that the text will be contained to that width and not allowed to wrap outside of area. I think the include file that you would need to change is modern.css in the publish directory.

Thanks for the reply.

None of that makes any sense to me, as I don't know CSS. Why did turning off the text wrapping in 3 different places via the Control Panel not modify the style definition for prod_moredescription??

I love ShopSite because of the wonderful GUI Control Panel.

Is there a way for me to do this via the Control Panel?

Thanks.

It looks like the template designer did not implement the wrap functionality in the Modern theme for more_info pages. I'll log it as an issue for the template designer to look into but I don't know when they will get around to fixing it. The Modern theme was added in ShopSite 9 which was released in 2008 so it is quite an old theme.

Note that the Modern theme would not work well on mobile devices like phones, tablets etc, which are becoming a larger segment of what shoppers are using for ordering online. You would probably be better off using the newer responsive design templates that were added starting in ShopSite 12. You can see what themes were added in each version of ShopSite at http://www.shopsite.com/templates/cookbook/builtintemplates.shtml

Thanks for the follow-up.

Looking at the newer responsive design templates I decided the Familiar Theme, released with v12 SP1 would be a good choice.

BUT when I go to select themes, it isn't an option.

NOTE I am running ShopSite® Pro 12 sp2 r1 hosted by Lexiconn.

I would have guessed SP1 templates would be in SP2.

I also looked for the Sector Theme and could not find it as an option.

The Habits theme also doesn't exist as an option.

Familiar is in my 12sp2 store, first row of themes, 3rd one from the left.

If those themes aren't in your store you should contact Lexiconn to see why they aren't there.

They ARE in the

Preferences >> Themes

BUT they are NOT in:

Using:

Preferences >> Themes

I changed over to the Familiar template
http://www.shopsite.com/templates/cookbook/builtintemplates-bb-familiar.html

it shows a Menu Bar across the top, and one along the side.

BUT my store doesn't show the one along the side. It has the top Menu Bar (GOOD!!), but the "side menu" options are across the top.

Image

I went to
Preferences >> Page Defaults >> Layout Info >> Columns

and I also went to
Preferences >> Page Defaults >> Layout Info >> Page Link Columns

NEITHER had any effect. The 4 columns for the products remains, the 4 columns for the page links remains. Even when I set them to 1 and 1 respectively, or 4 and 1 (trying to have 4 products but only 1 column of links)

Any thoughts?

HOWEVER

I can change the number of columns page-by-page (no clue why the global setting doesn't work)

BUT....

Pages >> Edit Page Layout >> Columns >> Four
Pages >> Edit Page Layout >> Page Link Columns >> One

Image

Yields Page links CENTERED

Image

not left justified.

This reply is to several of your posts.
1. A theme is not a template but is made up of a number of templates. That is why you don't find the "theme" name in the Page or Product template pulldown list. Several themes may use the same page or product templates but use different css files to create a different look on the page.

2. In newer themes the navigation displayed on the top, left, right and bottom of the page are controlled by the settings under Preferences > Navigation. This allows the navigation to be on just about any page in the store. Where you have the links to pages in the body of the page instead of on the left is because you don't have the left navigation configured and enabled. In this case the page links are generally placed above the product section. So to get the links on the left side of your page you need to configure the Navigation feature.

3. Each theme is different in the way it may use or not use specific features. IN the case of the theme you are using setting the column to 1 doesn't change the default alignment which is evidently to center the links on the page. If you have multiple columns then each column would probably have the link centered within the column. As I mentioned in 2 above, the way to get the links on the left is to use the Navigation feature. If you don't want to use the navigation to put the links on the left it would be necessary to edit the template and replace the navigation code with the code that will place the assigned page links there. Note the global page / product settings will only work when a page/product is created after the setting is enabled, it won't modify existing pages/products

Jim, THANK YOU.

I'm now understanding better how the Preferences >> Navigation fits into the whole scheme of things.

I did manage to get a menu over on the left hand side, which is GREAT.

However it kept the links/navigation in the main body of the page as well. So it didn't move them as much as copied them.

I see under Preferences >> Navigation: Menu, Left, Footer, Right but nothing about "middle" or "Body.

How do I get the menu links OUT of the main body?

Thanks again, I really do appreciate your help, guidance, and education on this.

There will be some code with the following basic layout in the template.
Code: Select all
[-- loop links --]
  [-- link --]
[-- end_loop --]

I'm at home now and don't have access to a store to check exactly how it is formatted, but that is basically how that section of links is output. The links themselves are the result of pages being assigned to other pages on the Pages > Assign Items > Pages. All the links are for pages that are assigned as links to the page you are viewing.
