Best Practice for Automatic Off-site backup?

Postby Rgkopchak » Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:36 am

I've searched around for info on the site, but didn't come up with any immediately.

What would best practices for an auto off-site backup be? Would doing an archive of the /shopsite-data/ folder, and then sending to another server be enough? Is there a better option, or are there other files/folders to consider?

Thanks!

The data folder will get most of the important ShopSite files such as the databases and most configuration settings. So at a minimum, this is the directory and subdirectories to archive. Another directory to consider is the html directory if you have files there that are not generated by ShopSite. The media directory (typically a subdirectory of the html dir) is where ShopSite stores the uploaded page and product images. Typically these are already on a local computer but you may want to archive them too. Finally, in ShopSite v14 under the cgi dir where the shopping cart files are is a store dir (e.g. cgi-bin/sc/store) inside there is one or more *.aa files with some store settings.

BEST practices are actions that most hosting providers should be doing anyway, i.e. incremental nightly backups of all files on the website to a different location, with multiple restore points.

There are some manual options in ShopSite to download your data or export your store. See Utilities> Export> and Utilities> Database> Backup>.
