Setting values for gift certificates

Postby Sibyl Perkins » Fri May 20, 2005 1:28 pm

I'd like to be able to create links to the gift certificate page that would
set the value of the certificate in advance for the customer. I would have
several links like this so it would have to be possible to have a variable
that can be passed to the form for the certificate amount or something like
this. Is this possible or am I stuck with the empty text field or dropdown
that is there now?

We had another question like this today through one of our hosting

partners. Was that you they were asking the question for?

The gift certificate feature requires information be submitted to the
shopping cart, including: amount, To:, From, Comment and if an email
certificate the receipent's email address. Since this information can't
be entered on the shopping cart screen you can't just have a URL the
adds the gift certificate to the cart, it has to be entered on a form
and submitted to the order.cgi.

Although this may not be exactly what you want, you could create
different links that go to separate pages where the shopper would just
have to enter the To:, From:, Comment:, and Email address. On each of
those pages you would hardcode the quantity and value of the gift
certificate for that particular page so when the shopper has entered the
required info the just click the submit and the value and quantity is
already set. You can get the code that is required by enabling the
feature and then copying the form from the resulting page and making the
quantity and value hidden fields.
