Order # ro recieve "qualified rate" for authorize.net

Postby Bruce » Wed Jun 08, 2005 3:32 pm

Hello,

Our Merchant Account is with Humboldt
Merchant Services in Eureka, CA.
And the gateway is thru Authorize.net.

I never noticed until yesterday (we've been on the system for about 10
months) that we're paying 3.95% interest for almost all sales using Visa
rather than the more modest 2.35% that we should be paying. For some
reason, this doesn't apply to Master Card charges.

The problem, I'm told, is that we are not sending to Authorize.net with
the S/S transactions a two-digit "Order #" that they require in order
for the charge to be at the best rate (it's called the "Qualified"
rate). Instead, we've been paying, all this time the "Non-Qualified"
rate of 3.95%. The 2-digit # doesn't seem to signify anything.

Has anyone else run into this. I cant find anywhere in Shopsite 7.1 to
assign 2 digit order #'s for each order.

Thanks,
Bruce

Can you find the Authorize.net documentation (or have your Authorize.net
contact find it) for the AIM integration method that mentions anything
about this two-digit 'order number' field that is supposed to be sent? I
don't see anything like this in their spec that I have.

Note that I HAVE heard of merchants being charged more by their merchant
bank if they are not collecting the CVV2 values (which is a 3 or 4 digit
number on the back or front of the credit card) from their shoppers,
however ShopSite has had the ability to collect CVV2 numbers from
shoppers since v6.x (and sends them along to Authorize.net, too, if you
are collecting them), the settings for this are in Commerce Setup ->
Payment -> Configure Processor.

I was told that non-discount in these instances are for mileage cards and
the like. I thought that was insane, but someone I know in the business says
all of those mileage cards, etc are paid for by the merchants.

Hello,
This is what Authorize.net said per my customer:

"snip"
A Customer Service Rep from Authorize.net looked at the records coming
in to them from ShopSite and see that S/S has been sending the
"customer's email address" in two fields, one of which should have been
a so-called "Order #," which is apparently what Visa uses to grade the
sale as "Qualified" rather than "Downgrading" it to "Non Qualified,"
which is what's been happening.

The two fields in which ShopSite has been sending the email address to
Authorize.net are:
'x_cust_id' and
'x_email'

Of course, the latter is correct, the first is where the error occured!

Shopsite needs to change the record to stop sending the Customer Email
in the
"Cust. ID" field and, instead, send a 2-digit numeric field there. It
can be a progressive number from 01 to 99 and then wrap around and do it
again. This is very strange, but if Visa gets such a #, we're told they
will give us the better credit card rate, 2.35% rather than 3.95%.

"snip"

Does this sound familiar to Shopsite. It seems something like this would
be a standard setup and I havent had any other customers with this issue.

Thanks,
Bruce
