customizing the e-mail receipt customer gets

Postby Liver Kid » Tue Aug 23, 2005 4:55 pm

Dontcha love it when a client finds something new and it helps you stretch
your skills!

We are using Shop Site Manager 7.1

My client just ordered something on line from another store. Her e-mal
receipt included all of the following:

1. A complete list of products she ordered including the item # (SKU?) the
quantity ordered, per item price and total price for each item

2. The address it was shipped to

3. A UPS tracking number. (my client is using UPS so I would think this
option might be available) This number, unique to her, was surrounded by
text, some generic and some specific to her including a link to the UPS web
site page specifically tracking her order.

4. An invoice number specific to her, surrounded by generic text that
everyone gets.

Now my client wants this on her site. I see how to do some of this in the
Shop Site on line help (Items #1 and #2) but have no idea if items #3 and #4
are even possible as I see no reference to them in the on line help. My
questions are:

1. Is this all possible using Manager 7.1 and if so, how?
2. Is there a way to see what the resulting e-mail would look like prior to
actually implementing it on the site. My confidence in getting this right on
the first, second or third try is not very high and I'd hate to put bad code
up while testing it chancing that someone might make a purchase prior to the
code being perfected. In addition, I don't want to have to purchase
something every time I'm testing my code.

Thanks
Liver Kid

Items 1,2,4 are all done in the default configuration of ShopSite. Item
3, UPS tracking, is not available in ShopSite. ShopSite does support
UPS realtime rate calculation to determine the shipping cost but a
tracking number is not generated with that service.

For testing purposes you could get a demo manager store at
shopsite.com/demo.html. Tina's Toys is the manager level store.

Here is a sample receipt from a manager store. Note that email and
browser wrap of lines may cause things to not line up exactly here.
