Gift Certificate - message field not making it to email

I'm creating a gift certificate with the default gc template, and the
message field in the recipient's email is ending up with "Created Email sent"
rather than the text entered in the Message box during creation. The text
is properly stored in the database (shows if I view the saved certificate).

Does anyone know where this is coming from, and why the typed message isn't
making it through?

How are the gift certificate emails being sent? From the backoffice
View Order screen or from the gift Certificate screen or automatically
from the Thank You screen when the order is finalized?

(sent when the certificate is created)

I also asked about it through my provider, and a bug has been submitted
and a Shopsite engineer assigned, so there should be a patch forthcoming..
