Download product file

Postby Liver Kid » Thu Mar 02, 2006 8:09 am

I have a client using Shop Site 7. He writes books and wants to offer them
as downloadable files.

Is there a way using Shop Site that the customer can pay for the book, then
be taken to a page with a link to download the file? If not, then can they
be e-mailed a link?

Thanks

ShopSite Pro level stores have a feature called Digital Download that
does this. It is not available for Manager or Starter level stores.

I got Shop Site Pro installed for the client. I've searched the Shop Site
Help files by typing in "Digital Download" "Digital" and "Download" and
don't see anything that helps me figure out how to do this.

I also tried getting Tech Support at my Host, Verio, to help over the
weekend and the two levels of tech support working on Saturday had no idea
how to do this.

We looked in the Shop Site backroom under Products and Merchandising and
still can't find it.

Can you direct me to a link where I can learn how to do this?

Thanks

Look under Commerce Setup -> Digital Download to upload files and
configure the feature. Once you have configured and have your digital
files uploaded, you can indicate a product is a 'Download' product, and
associate it with one of the files you uploaded, in that product's Edit
Product Info menu. Documentation can be obtained by clicking the red '?'
button in the navbar while on these particular menus.

This is a great help.

I've uploaded the file, left the configuration as the default, then in the
Product info file for that product, selected "download" as the product type,
sleceted the download directory and the pdf file I want people to be able
to, download and clicked "save".

From there I took the "order anywhere" code and pasted it into the link.
When the link is clicked, the user is taken to the shopping cart, asked to
enter thier typ of payment and a zip code. If they don't enter a zip code,
an error message asks them to. If they do enter a zip code, when they go to
the check out stand, the system gives this error message:

sc_default [233]: There should be a shipping value here

This error message does not appear for products that are shipped and not
downloaded.

Any ideas?

Thanks

This is because you left the weight of the product at '0', you are
shipping by UPS, and you did not indicate that the product should be
excluded from shipping calculations.

If you want this product excluded from shipping charges, check the 'No
Shipping Charges' checkbox in the Edit Product Info menu (otherwise give
it a weight). The reason that exclusion from shipping is not automatic
for Digital Download products is that a digitally delivered product
could still also have have a shippable part (e.g. you could also ship a
copy of the file to them on CD, or there could be a manual associated
with the file).
