Database upload errors

Postby shoplite » Thu Jul 26, 2001 3:09 pm

We've been using database upload for years and some problems remain. We've
worked around them but feel we need to get them attended to as number of
products expand.
2 particular issues.
1) If you have a "Link Location" in pages DB and then delete the field
(delete the text in that field for a product), the link does not remove
itself after "Publish". You have to go into the back office and uncheck the
link directly.
2) If you have text in "Add to Cart Button" and "View Cart Button" in
products DB and then delete the text in that field (for example when a
product is discontinued but you still want the product displayed), theses
buttons are not removed after "Publish". You have to go into the back office
and delete the text directly.
This is all a real pain with large updates and defeats the object of using
the DB. For some reason the information in these fields is not beeing
updated.
Please comment.

1) Yes, the Link Location field is additive only, it will not remove links that
are not there in the upload file. If you would like to make enhancement requests
you should do so either through whomever sold you ShopSite or through the
feedback forms at http://www.shopsite.com/help/4.3/en-US/ ... dback.html

2) A totally blank field will not usually destroy anything that is in that field
in ShopSite. This is in case someone unintentionally uploads that field without
realizing they didn't provide the information. If you want to blank it out you
shoul replace the image or text with a space, or you could replace it with a
clear gif that is only one pixel big (you can find such a gif in the ShopSite
back office screens that you can download for your own use, look for
dotclear.gif in the HTML source).

Database upload errors

Postby shoplite » Fri Jul 27, 2001 12:21 pm

Loren,
Thanks - re point 2. We use text for the "Add to Cart", so I suppose we
could also just use a period, which is hardly visible anyway.

Trophy company-text for engraving area

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Fri Sep 21, 2001 1:45 pm

Hi Group,

I want to use shopsite manager to build a site for a trophy and plaque
company. I know I can use one text area to allow the ordering person to
add what text they want for the engraving. But if they order 2 or more
trophies or plaques, how can I add this info to the order? I will be
using order anywhere buttons as I'll build site outside of shopsite.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Go to Products, slect the product you want to have a text entry field for,
click Edit Product Info, and in the Ordering Options section you should see
a checkbox with the label:

Customer Text Entry: Check here to create a Customer Text Entry box for
this product in the shopping cart.

Check it. Save Changes. Next time you place that product in the cart you
will see that underneath it will be a text entry box for the shopper to put
the personalized text and descriptions particular to that product.

Customer Text Entry" and insruction label?

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Sun Sep 23, 2001 7:59 pm

Thanks so much Loren.

Is there any way to "label" this "customer text entry" area to give clients
short insructions. I realize the instructions probably must be generic
irregardless of what they order. So I would like to simpy add something like
:

"Please type your trophy or plaque text here in theis box:"

Or is it possible to have the generic instructions pre-written in the
"tcustomer text Box" that they can delete after they read them and then type
in the words they want?

Maybe another option would be a pop up box, like " java open new window" that
could give them the instructions as that wndow pop ups at the same time the
shop cart window opens up when they lick on the order button. (I use "order
anywhere" for this site). But would this type of Java (that is built into
Adobe GoLive) work with the "order anywhere" button? Or would it disrupt the
code?

I have Manager 5.0. Thanks again for your help and advice.
