If the beta is already out, why such the secrecy?

Postby Brandon » Tue Dec 11, 2001 11:24 pm

I'm anxiously awaiting 6.0 (actually, it's hype is the only reason I've
stayed with ShopSite this long)...

Candy coated dreams of tight UPS integration with real-time cost
calculation, better templates and themes manipulation for products and
pages, the long awaited coupons, and more had me convinced that this version
would be worth the wait.

As the beta was now released and is in testing, why are the manuals still
locked down? I would like to go ahead and start looking at some of the new
features so when they get here I can properly impliment them into my site.

I have been using ShopSite for a few years now, and have been really
impressed with its progress. However, it still doesn't fit our needs
completely. With 6.0 I thought it was going to come close enough to offset
the costs of custom-development.

Any word on when the new version (6.0 I presume) will be released? Manuals
or list of feature enhancements? Anything to keep our dreams of Santa alive
through Christmas??

I've seen Santa coming ..

Hi Brandon,
great website, BTW. I got a quick peek at ShopSite 6.0 (Pro, not sure how much
will be in Mgr) and from what I've seen UPS integration is in, CVV is there,
coupons & discounts are in, keep unfinished shopping carts is in, automatic
sales tax recognition is in, digital good are in, basic inventory tracking is
in, no word on the template improvements yet, but they had announced it often so
I assume that's in too. Haven't seen any customer login/order tracking feature.

Those sound pretty great!

It would be nice to have a customer registration/login option... but an
OPTION only, not mandatory to purchase stuff. Just good for people who want
to save time on their next order. I hate it though when I have to create a
username/password when I know this is a one time purchase for sure. I would
like to have a username/password though for sites that I purchase things
regularly from.

I hope the discounts/coupons thing works well. I would like to be able to go
into the backoffice and create different types of coupons. One time use
codes for a percentage or dollar amount off (good for credits a customer may
have with us for future orders or a one time $5 or 5% coupon or gift
certificates) and codes that last until we turn them off or until a date
passes (10% off or $10 with this code until Jan. 1st)

These two features would make the biggest difference!!!

And yes, being able to change the look of the shopping cart pages with ease
would be nice too.
