Search by price/search by color?

Postby Ellen Doran » Thu Mar 18, 2004 3:35 pm

I have an online flower shop for which I want to provide search by price and
search by color. Here are the specific requests--I can't figure out how to
do this, can it be done? thanks

1 For ARRANGEMENTS,TYPE,DESIGNER'S CHOICE: Can we have a field where the
customer can just key in a PRICE and have an "Add to Cart" button near the
price field??? And of course, have this information appear on the order.

2 For DESIGNER'S CHOICE BY COLOR: Can we have a field where the customer
can just key in a COLOR and have an "Add to Cart" button near the price
field??? And of course, have this information appear on the order.

3 For DESIGNER'S CHOICE BY FLOWER TYPE: can we have a field where the
customer can just key in a FLOWER TYPE/NAME and have an "Add to Cart" button
near the price field??? And of course, have this information appear on the
order.

4 For WRAPPED BOUQUETS BY FLOWER COLOR: can we have a field where the
customer can just key in a FLOWER COLOR and have an "Add to Cart" button
near the price field??? And of course, have this information appear on the
order.

5 For WRAPPED BOUQUETS BY FLOWER TYPE: can we have a field where the
customer can just key in a FLOWER TYPE/NAME and have an "Add to Cart" button
near the price field??? And of course, have this information appear on the
order.

What version of ShopSite, (ie version 7.0, 6,3 etc) and what level of
product (ie Pro, manager, starter) are you using?

ShopSite Pro version 7.x has a variable price, variable SKU and variable
name capability which would probably do most of what you are wanting.
Searching by color should be possible just using the normal search
settings. The searching by price would be more difficult to do since
ShopSite does a pattern match type of search so for example if someone
wanted a $25.00-30.00 bouquet you would have to have an exact match for
the "$25.00-30.00" text in one of your products.

Probably a better way to do this would be to have pages dedicated to
various price ranges, ie a page for $25.00-30.00 bouquets another for
$30-50 etc and have a dropdown where they can select the price range
they want. You can see an example of this type of search at
http://www.shopsite.com/html/als-adv/index.html
The pulldowns are for for Department and Brand but you could make them
whatever you want.
Also there is an example of the variable price product if you click on
the link "auctions or donations" in the paragraph of text on that same
page. YOu could change the Item name to Flower type and the SKU to color.
