API to access ShopSite database

You guys have always been very good about giving us features we
genuinely need... but the one thing that has always been lacking is the
search feature. We can't search by special fiends, by size, by
manufacturer, etc.

I would like to write a few custom scripts to add functionality to
ShopSite but the database is not accessible by merchants. I understand
that you may not want to allow direct access, but why not give us an API
that we could use to access it?

You guys could write a simple program that would access the database and
return results based on certain criteria and we could use different
scripting languages to make really usefull add-ons. If you had an API
additional scripts could be written in PHP, JavaScript, even Perl to add
a ton of functionality to ShopSite.

Is this out of the realm of possibility or something that may actually
get done? I would be willing to pay some to get the API developed
because it would allow me to make my own scripts like product search
with exactly the features I need.

Thanks,

Wow... I would LOVE to be able to connect to the Shopsite database using
PHP. It would be even better if I could make changes to the Shopsite
database also.

Thanks!
