Changing the look and feel of an existing template

Postby Efrat S. » Wed Jun 23, 2004 8:48 pm

Hello,

I just started using Shopsite today, and I have a question regarding editing
of the look and feel of the store.

I would like to change some of the aspects of the template I choose: the
color of some of the cells, the colors of some of the link, replace the
right and the left column and so on.

How can I do that? is there a help file I can read about changing existing
templates?

My store is here:
http://store.austinuts.com/

and I am using Shopsite Pro version 6 hosting with Verio.

Thanks for any help to a novice and confuse user....

Efrat.

In ShopSite v7 a function was added in Merchandising -> Custom Templates
(where you can upload your custom templates into your own editable area)
called Copy ShopSite Templates which allows you to copy any of the
ShopSite default templates that are written in the custom template
language into this area.

This feature was not in v6, and I haven't heard of Verio offering v7
yet, so you will probably have to manually copy the templates you are
interested in from the default template directories to your own
directories. On Verio servers, the ShopSite default templates should be
located in 'pages' and 'products' subdirectories of the
shopsite_sc/ss/templates/ directory. To place them so that you can edit
them via the ShopSite backoffice, you can copy them to the same
subdirectories in shopsite_sc/ss/data/templates/ (create the templates
directory and the appropriate pages and/or products subdirectories if
they do not already exist). The templates whose filenames start with two
digits are not in the custom template language and can't be copied or
modified.

I highly recommend that you copy the custom templates to the temnplate
directories in the data directory area rather than modify them in the
default template directories, because the templates in the default
directories will be overwritten on an upgrade.

Loren, thanks for the quick reply.

I looked under shopsite_sc/ss/templates/ and all I see there are the files
that start with two digit, I don't have any other file, and I can't seem to
find where the files for the template I am using are located, so I can't
change them.

Any suggestions?

Thank, Efrat.

What template are you using? Also, what v6 version are you using? If you
do not have v6.3, I would suggest that you request from Verio that
they upgrade you to that version.

I am using Mondrian Pastel.

I have version 6.1.1 and just asked Verio to upgrade to version 6.3, I hope
they will do it fast.

Thank again.

Mondrian is not one of the themes/templates that uses the custom
template language, so the template itself cannot be modified, however I
believe that it uses the colors set in Pages -> Edit Page Layout for the
various colors on the pages. Choosing a particular color version of the
theme in Preferences -> Layout & Color Theme presets all of the colors
on all of the pages, however you should still be able to change them if
you want.

Hi Loren,

Thanks for all the help.

I got version 6.3.1 and found that the tab design will work fine for me. I
am still playing with the design, but I am sure I'll have more questions in
the future.

Thanks again.
