Modify Order

Postby Psage » Sat Sep 04, 2004 5:18 pm

I was looking in the FAQ files and it said that orders cannot be modified in
Shopsite.

Is this true? What do you do when a customer wants to change the shipping
method or change their order?

Most things in Shopsite look good so far, but not being able to modify
orders would be a problem!

ShopSite does all the front-end tasks excellently (like creating pages
and products, shopping cart, etc.) but has very limited features as far
as order processing go.

What we do is use Stone Edge Order Manager which downloads ShopSite's
orders and offers a TON of customer and order processing functions
including custom email templates (for as many different situations as
you need), backordering and drop-shipping, custom pick lists and
invoices for print, and more.

www.stoneedge.com

It'd definately worth it and had much more functionality than any online
system I've seen.

If orders can't be modified in Shopsite, how could an external program let
you modify them?

Or does it just delete an order and automatically create a new one with the
requested changes?

The orders are downloaded from ShopSite and from that point all order
handling is done outside of ShopSite. Orders can not be uploaded back
into ShopSite after modifications are made to them.

This kind of process seems as if it won't work for us, because we use an
outside fulfillment company which has its own back-end system that orders
get loaded into.

We can modify orders there, but then would have to go back into some other
system (right now it's just Yahoo Store, but I suppose it could be
Authorize.net or something? I've never used those systems) to modify the
charge amount and do the charge.

We also need it to all work online, not on any dedicated PC.

I'm wondering if this inability to modify orders makes Shopsite unusable for
us or not.

Do you really need an on-line process for that? If not, the Stone Edge Order
Manager can probably handle all of your needs, including the ability to
modify orders, capture pre-approved credit card charges, process additional
charges or issue credits as needed, send orders to fulfillment centers, and
import tracking data that comes back from the fulfillment centers.

Please feel free to give us a call to discuss your needs further. Also, if
you are anywhere near San Diego, we will be holding a free Open House there
on 9/25/04 where you can see the program in action and get answers to your
questions. More info at www.StoneEdge.com.

The problems with using some client side software are:

- we would have to download orders into that software and then upload them
to the fulfillment system. This require that we always have the client
system working and introduces another point of failure in the process.

- there might be manual steps, which we try to avoid except on exception
orders which have a problem.

- unless it can be made to be automatic, there would be a delay in getting
the order to the fulfillment system, which could cause shipping delays on
orders which arrive close to the closing time for daily shipments.

If you offered it as a web-based service and it could be a single control
panel for everything, and it was fully automated, not requiring manual
intervention on most orders, that would make it much more do-able from my
perspective.
