Using the associates functionality

Postby Jeff Philapy » Mon Nov 22, 2004 4:56 pm

I was looking the associates feature for the pro version. It looks kind of
limited. I am wondering what if an associate wants to provide a catalog of
products on their site. The catalog will span multiple pages. For example
each page will represent a catagory with a list of products on it. This
associates visitors can then browse the catalog, when they are ready to
purchase then the order will be sent through the store of the person
providing the associates program.

Also I noticed that the merchant can specify a url to redirect to for the
associate. Can this url be located on a remote site? Or does it have to be
on the site running shopsite? And if it can work on a remote site is there
anyway to assign the associate multiple urls to accomdate my above
description about the multipage catalog?

Thanks,

Jeff

No, it can be ANY URL.

"is there anyway to assign the associate multiple urls"

As of v6.3, the URL that you set up in the Associate record in the
ShopSite backoffice is simply the DEFAULT Landing Page URL. You can
specify any number of URLs you want as the landing page that the
ShopSite associate cgi will redirect, overriding the default, by adding
something like:

&url=http://www.yourdomain.com/the_page_you_want_the_shopper_to_land_on.html

to the end of the Associate URL. See the help docs (this is for v7.1,
BTW) at:

Thanks Loren your answer is helpful.

Can you tell me if it is possible for me to just link the buy buttons
directly to the cart and have them create the associates session at the same
time? Or do I have to use the method are discussing?

My main concern is that people want to submit their domain/url to search
engines rather then the domain/url of the company they are an associate for.
So instead of: submitting the url to search engines:

http://www.somecompany.com/cgi-somecomp ... espage.htm

It would be nice to submit http://SiteOfAssociate/associatepage.htm and then
on that page link to the cart of SomeCompany. I am just not sure that Shop
Site will allow this.

Thanks,
Jeff
