problem with cgi-bin permissions

Postby Chuck Rock » Mon Dec 13, 2004 4:18 pm

I trying to install ShopSite for a customer, and we are hosting this on a
Linux Cpanel server. Cpanel doesn't allow world writable permissions.

The server logs this error.
[2004-12-13 16:06:35]: error: directory is writable by others:
(/home/motoxclo/public_html/cgi-bin)

Even if it's set to 775 perms. All of the cgi-bin directories can only have
755 permissions.

I believe the site does run as the user though, so even though the perms are
755, the site does have write perms to those directories. I can't get the
install to complete though, so maybe not.

Anyone else have experience getting Shopsite to work under Cpanel?
Any other ideas? I also tried creating a new store-cgi directory and only
allowed ExecCGI permissions. It still complained and would not execute the
cgi scripts.

Here's the errors listed at the top of the wwwinstall.cgi after I click the
OK button.

WARNING: The ShopSite directory may have permissions problems. It may
need to have USER and/or GROUP read, write and execute permissions to
install correctly.

WARNING: The Shopping Cart directory may have permissions problems.
It may need to have USER and/or GROUP read, write and execute permissions to
install correctly.

Thanks,
Chuck

These 'WARNING' messages are just that, warnings. Not errors. And is
says 'may need', not 'definitely need in all situations'. Regardless,
unless there are any other errors later in the install regarding writing
to these directories, you can ignore these 'warnings'.
