purchasing minimums?

Postby cheryl » Tue Nov 23, 2004 5:41 pm

Hi,

How come purchasing minimums is not on the "wish list"? Miva and Yahoo
allows a merchant to sell a product with minimums. How come ShopSite does
not care to offer this feature? What I mean by minimums is allowing the
customer to purchase at least X amount of a product. Does anyone know if
this is coming down the pipe?

Thanks in advance,
Cheryl

You can have a minimum checkout amount for the cart total but I'm guessing
you want a minimum quantity that a customer has to purchase of a particular
product? You could create a product bundle of say 3 items if that was your
minimum but then customers could only order in groups of 3 but perhaps that
would meet your need? What is it you are wishing to sell but limit the
intial amount to a minimum?

Hi, David

Yes, we want a minimum quantity that a customer has to purchase of a
particular
product. For example, we sell wedding coffee in packs of 40. I've had
customers who only need 50 packs but I have to tell them that they have to
buy 80 packs. So, I don't get the sale because the customer doesn't want to
waste her money buying more coffee packs than she needs. It's hurt my sales
a bit and I'm disappointed that ShopSite doesn't have this feature in the
past 3 years that I've been using this shopping cart.

Thanks,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Here is a thought for setting up an item to give the ability to go up by
10's starting at a 40 pack minimum.

SKU:
HJ40pack

Price:
40.00

On Sale Price:
20.00

Product Name:
Hot Java 40 pack

Product Description:
Hot Java the best coffee out there - see More Info Page for ordering
other qty's

More Info Page Text:
Hot Java the best coffee in the world is available in 10 packs with
a 40 pack minimum order.
Use the Order Options drop down box for additional quantities of 10
, 20, or 30 pack.

Order Options Description:
Select 10, 20, or 30 additional packs. <br>
For a qty of 60 set qty to 1 and select 2 additional 10 packs from
these options. <br>
For a qty of 80 set qty to 2. and select No additional qty's needed
from these options. <br>
For a qty of 90 set qty to 2 and select 1 additional 10 pack from
options.

Pull-down Menus:
No additional qty's needed
1 additional 10 pack ($2.50 extra); 2.50
2 additional 10 packs ($5.00 extra); 5.00
3 additional 10 packs ($7.50 extra); 7.50

This is easy to do and the value after the semi colon is used to add
that amount to the charges so be sure to include it.

Hope this helps...
