Fact concerning gift certificates

Postby Nikolaus Gruchot » Tue Dec 07, 2004 1:48 am

Hi all,

I think this is interesting for everybody thinking about implementing the
gift certificate feature. I just heard an interview here in the german
radio. They stated that last year on Dec. 24, amazon sold in Germany 70.000
(!!) gift certificatess on that day alone!

:-) Maybe that helps the decision. I will for my part see, that I get this
setup (shop-wise and procedure-wise) withing the next 7 days.

Best regards,

Niko

We have been selling gift certificates for several years, but it is of our
own design.

If anyone has ShopSite's Gift Certificate feature implemented, please post
your URL here. I'd like to see how it works.

Thanks

Hello Larry,

how are you using your custom gc feature currently. Delivery by email only
or by letter mail only or both? If you are using both, what is used more? To
what percentage?

Looking for input to do it right from the start :-)

Regards,
Niko

I just set my Gift Certificate page up. Fairly simple. I tested it and it
works fine. I enabled automatically sending the e-mail because I can still
verify the credit card before shipping. You can get to the GC page at this
link.

I have been selling gift certificates for years and just implemented the new

ShopSite gift certificates. You can see these in action at
http://www.AustinGiftCertificates.com. The actual page for selling the
ShopSite gift certs is

Hi Nikolaus; Just go to our homepage at www.audiobooksonline.com and click
on the gift image in the left-hand column. You will be taken to our gift
certificate page which explains the process and shows the amounts that can
be purchased. Not an elegant solution, but has worked well for us.

Let me know if you have questions.

Hello Gary,

I liked your approach "Have the email send it to yourself and copy the
information into a greeting card". That eliminates the need for mail
certificates. I have done it the same way.

What I am still trying to figure out: I would like to have the gift
certificate policies as in [-- Store.GiftCert_Policy --] to be emailed with
the gift certificate. I think it is mandatory for the recipient to know what
rules apply as well as for the purchaser of the gift certificates.

Would the [-- Store.GiftCert_Policy --] tag also work in the email part of
the gc custom template? Can any shopsite guru answer that please :-)

Best regards,

Niko

Any tag that begins "Store." should be able to be used on any template.

Little off topic of coupon set-up.

I read that 18% of gift certificates. are never redeemed?

Anyone know this to be a fact?

thanks.

Phil,

I am in the business of selling gift certificates and that would be a
conservative number as far as gift certificates not being redeemed. The
other thing to keep in mind about gift certificates is that you can expect
many to be redeemed for close to 40% or more than the face value of the gift
certificate. Now, to be fair these numbers are mostly based on brick and
mortar, but I can vouch for lots of money being made from gift certificates
not being redeemed.
