Questions and answers about ShopSite Custom Templates

variable language.

Postby CGA » Wed Feb 14, 2018 1:39 pm

Hello,

We are currently working on our database and will be populating a Shopsite soon. There are currently 3 questions.

1. We produce labels and often the text on the label needs to be translated from English to Spanish. Is there a module available for this purpose? Apparently we can license google's translate API for this purpose but I thought I would check with all of you here first to see if there is a better / easier way?

2. We need our clients to be able to input their own text on a label while still using our ISO / ANSI / OSHA approved header. This text should populate the preview image immediately so our clients know what they are purchasing. This "customized" label now also has to pass through data so we can produce it. Is there a known working module / include that we can use for this?

3. The eventual intent is to mass upload product data and images along with all of the relevant data for each product offering. What is the appropriate database format? I realize this information may be in the tutorial section so it may solve itself.

Thanks in advance.

1) No, this is not a current feature
2) No, there isn't an existing module
3)There is a manual upload/download option through Utilities> Database>.
Database help http://help.shopsite.com/help/14.0/en-US/sc/pro/database.show.html
If you would like to automate the upload/download process you can use ShopSite's programmatic XML interface to write your own applications to automatically upload or download your store information.
http://help.shopsite.com/help/14.0/en-US/sc/pro/database.automated_XML_upload.html

Note that images are uploaded separately, not part of the product info
uploads. They can upload images through our manual interface, or they
can upload them via an FTP account provided by their host.

Thank you for the reply cyoung! All of your answers are spot on and helped keep us from wasting a bunch of time.

Here is what we found so far:

1) As Cyoung said there is no current feature for translation. We opted instead to have our entire message database translated and we linked the English and Spanish indices. When we get to the actual "more info" page design the goal will be to display the spanish and multilingual versions along with the original english version.

2) For the purpose of custom design we will need to either write or hire someone to write a module.

3) The database documentation is fairly robust and all of the headers are listed -> http://help.shopsite.com/help/14.0/en-US/sc/pro/index.htm

So new question:

If we want to upload standard product data first and then upload google marketplace data at a later time, can we use the ProductGUID to make certain the new data is properly appending to the correct product row?

Thanks again

Answer: The data upload function will use whatever identified key to append the data to the correct rows without duplication. So far that seems to be how it works.

Cheers.
