Help me find my css file!

Postby Kapitol » Sat May 26, 2012 12:41 pm

I'm finally ready to upload my magnificent custom template. You can see a preview below, but the shopsite version looks a little different.
http://www.artandsoulbeads.com/asb/

The video instructions I saw showed Shopsite 10 Pro and I am on manager so I am missing a specific place to upload Javascript and CSS files as includes. So instead I have just uploaded these 2 files as normal includes. Problem is I cannot find where these 2 files are and I dont have FTP access atm because my host takes looong weekends.

I need a full link to them when I do find them, like, http://www.artandsoulbeads.com/store/??.css

Which sub-folder is Shopsite putting the includes into? Are the files accessible from a URL link? If not would you know of a better way to upload a CSS file?

Thanks, Nate.

I found a solution, it's not perfect but it works. I just uploaded the CSS file as an image into the media folder. Fixed all the links and it works. The biggest drawback is when I make a change to the CSS I have to delete the file and upload a new one.

I read on, http://shopsite.com/help/current/en-US/sc/pro/index.htm?page=/help/current/en-US/sc/pro/working/faq.pages.content.html that I can link to any CSS/JS file using the meta, but I still have the issue of not knowing where the includes folder is and if you can even link to a file in that location, my numerous attempts to link a file from and various other locations like -.com/includes/ failed.

Your store is running Shopsite Pro 10 r7.2 which is a patched version of the original 10.0 release. Since that release there have been 4 major releases, 10 sp1, 10 sp2, 11, 11sp1 and just recently 11sp2 (linux only so far). So the version you have is about 3 to 4 years old. The videos on the website are probably all using newer versions of ShopSite. So some parts of the videos may not apply to your store.

To work with templates in version 10 You would go to Merchandising > Custom Templates. In the Includes section you could upload your CSS files and use a statement [-- INCLUDE <filename> --] where you want to include the css in your Page or product, shopping cart, search etc templates. This will place a copy of your style sheet into the generated html pages. In more recent versions, starting with 10sp1, a Publish section was added to allow css and javascript to be in a publish directory similar to how you are doing it, whch allows relative access to the css files instead of placing the code on each page. A section was added under Mercandising > Custom Templates > Includes to allow uploading and editing the css / javascript files. At publish time the files are place in a publish subdirectory of the html root where they can be accessed by relative urls which means the browser only has to download the code once instead of on every page load.

Talk to your host about getting updated to the latest version so you can benefit from all the features added since version 10. You can find a list of the new features at.
for version 10, 10sp1 10sp2 http://www.shopsite.com/help/10.2/en-US/new-features.html
for versions 11, 11sp1, 11sp2 http://www.shopsite.com/help/11.2/en-US/new-features.html
