Help needed getting mobile to work

Postby jeffgmorris » Wed Dec 12, 2012 11:39 am

I am new to mobile apps but want to get my store working with mobile devices.

All I have done is turned mobile on and pointed my Navigation 1 page to my main product page.

When I try to access the page from my website when on an Iphone it comes back "page not found" even though the same URL works fine on a laptop browser. I assume there is more to do to get to the basic point of having your product page show up on a mobile device but have not found a good tutorial showing the steps to get this to work.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should approach this?

Thanks
Jeff

It looks like your hosting provider also has some kind of mobile device recognition and is doing something for mobile browsers that is interfering with the ShopSite mobile feature.

If I go to your page http://denamorris.startlogic.com/store/index.html in a regular browser it works. In a mobile browser it gets the 404 error that you mentioned. However, if I go to the main page at http://denamorris.startlogic.com in the mobile browser, it shows me a mobile version of your main page (which is not a ShopSite page, BTW) and at the bottom it shows buttons to switch to the 'Full Site'. After I click the Full Site button, then I can go to the ShopSite page at http://denamorris.startlogic.com/store/index.html and the ShopSite mobile feature will kick in. So basically, it looks like your host's mobile feature is preventing mobile browsers from accessing the ShopSite pages in the /store directory by default. You may need to ask your host if there is a way to turn off their mobile feature so that it does not do that.

OK, this worked. Thanks very much.

One last question. On my main product page on a laptop web browser I have 1 "more info" page, the default "Your Shopping Cart" as you can see at http://denamorris.startlogic.com/store/index.html

This does not show up on my mobile site. Anybody know why and how I can fix this?

Thanks
Jeff

The mobile layout has different navigation than your regular pages. Because of the limited width of cell phone screens, there is no left-hand or right-hand navigation. Go to Preferences -> Mobile and see the 'Mobile Navigation' section. If you want a View Cart link at the top, make Navigation 1, 2, 3, or 4 your View Cart link (this will appear at the top of the mobile page) by giving it the Navigation Text of 'View Cart', then select the 'Or enter a URL to a non-ShopSite page' option and enter your shopping cart URL, which is:
http://shopsite.startlogic.com/ss11.2/sc/order.cgi?storeid=*181240867a4ec46ca778a04240f8&function=show
I would also suggest setting up the other three navigation options (the ones you didn't use for your View Cart URL) and point them to the most important page(s) on your site, for example I would recommend a Contact page, and maybe something like a Best Sellers or Specials or something.
