Custom Buttons / Changing Button Style

Postby nwyrktodd » Sun Sep 29, 2013 4:45 pm

Hi I have a completely custom theme at von-nyc.com. (you have to go to von-nyc.com/tee001.html to see the store as it is not built yet). I want to change the buttons. I once had all custom buttons made for the site, but somehow they deleted when we moved hosting locations. How can I change the overall button settings for the whole page? Also, is there a way to have an interactive button?
First - how can I just change to one of shopsite's basic buttons like the purple?
Second- How can I customize all the buttons to ones I made? I think you can use a VAR change button?
Third- how Can I set an on mouse over event class to a bulk amount of buttons? Is that possible?
Fourth- I need some help restoring the custom thank you email and receipt pages. I had them set correctly at one time, but they deleted on the move.
Fifth - How can I add some subproducts to each more product info page? I guess I could manually edit the pages but is there a way to bulk edit this? Can you show me an example of how?
Sixth- How do i Resize the image size for the more product info page? I want to get rid of the scroll bar.

Thank you

First - how can I just change to one of shopsite's basic buttons like the purple?

The Add to Cart and View Cart buttons for a Manager store are configured on Preferences > Store Text > Store pages. Other buttons for the shopping cart and other screens are configured on Preference > Store Text > Shopping cart / Checkout. Some themes will have actual buttons from images, but others will have text and then use one of the store color settings to put a colored background behind it.
Second- How can I customize all the buttons to ones I made? I think you can use a VAR change button?

See answer to the first question. Depending on the theme you are using buttons may be set on on of those screens. Some themes might use VARs to select a color, that would usually be done if the buttons are actually text and not images. When a VAR is used it may require certain colors to be set or the buttons go to some default color. You would need to view the template source to see if that is the case for your templates.
Third- how Can I set an on mouse over event class to a bulk amount of buttons? Is that possible?
This would require modifying the template and adding the on mouse over code. A web search for "mouse over event" should turnup some code you could use.
Fourth- I need some help restoring the custom thank you email and receipt pages. I had them set correctly at one time, but they deleted on the move.
The thank you email and receipt pages are in the shopping cart template which is selected on Commerce Setup > Order System > Layout settings.
Fifth - How can I add some subproducts to each more product info page? I guess I could manually edit the pages but is there a way to bulk edit this? Can you show me an example of how?
First, You shouldn't manually edit the ShopSite generated pages or your changes will be lost the next time you publish your store. If your products have subproducts make sure that the moreinfo section of the product template has a section to display them. It would need to have a [-- DEFINE SUBPRODUCT --] section and then where you want the subproducts to display section for [-- loop subproducts --] .
Sixth- How do i Resize the image size for the more product info page? I want to get rid of the scroll bar.
You can configure the size of the box the morinfo image displays in (if you have multiple moreinfo images) on Preferences > More Info pages. If you actually need to resize the images you do that on the Images screen. You configure the size you want the images to be on the Images > Configure screen and then on the main Images screen select the images you need to resize and click the Create Resized images button.

seventh - How can i add more columns? 3 or 4? http://von-nyc.com/breastplate.html

Eighth- on secure pages like checkout, the images in the footer aren't displaying correctly. I think it's because they are not secure. Can you refresh my memory on how to secure them... http://von-nyc.com/cgi-bin/sc/order.cgi?rd=1&storeid=*14894f26aafd41171aa47862&sbid=SSMSB1380132368.6847&redirect=yes

For the number of columns you typically go to Pages > Edit Page Layout and set the Columns value from 1 to 5. Note that this depends on the custom template being designed to use the value set there.

For secure pages it depends on where the images are being configured. Typically the header and footer would be coming from the Commerce Setup > Order System > Checkout (or Thankyou) screen in the Text at the top of the Checkout screen: or Text at the bottom of the Checkout screen fields. If this is the case you should include the secure urls for images in those fields.

HELLO
FIRST, Regarding SECURE PAGES in the Checkout:

this is the custom includes footer code that I have. (For some reason, it says not secure, since I added the logos at the bottom. It has something to do with my Bright Ideas Design Logo I think?)

<footer class="VON-foot">
<div class="von-align">
<div class="grid1"><p> Created by:</p>
<ul>

<li><a href="http://thebrightestidea.com"><img src="[-- VAR.URL --]/media/white-BrightIdeas.jpg" alt="Bright Ideas Design LLC, Art Direction at It's Best!"></a></li>
</ul>
</div>

<div class="grid">
<p>VON Statements:</p>
<ul>

<li><a href="http://von-nyc.com/shopsite-images/en-US/privacy-policy.pdf">Privacy Statements</a></li><br />

<li><a href="http://von-nyc.com/shopsite-images/en-US/terms.pdf">Terms and Conditions</a></li><br />

</ul>
</div>

<div class="grid5">

</li>
</ul>
</div>

</div>

</footer>
<form action="[-- SHOPPING_CART_URL BASE --]/productsearch.cgi?storeid=[-- STORE.ID --]" method="get">
<input type="hidden" name="storeid" value="[-- STORE.ID --]">
<div id="search"><div><input type="text" name="search_field" class="search-field" size="13" value="[-- STORE.Search --]" onFocus="value=''">
<input type="submit" value="[-- STORE.Go --]" class="search-submit">
</div></div></form>

THIS IS THE CUSTOM VARS:

[-- IF VAR.Secure "yes" --]
[-- VAR.URL "https://von-nyc.com" --]
[-- ELSE --]
[-- VAR.URL "http://von-nyc.com" --]
[-- END_IF --]
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ClothingStore">
<head>
<!-- Add the following three tags inside head -->
<meta itemprop="name" content="VON Fashion">
<meta itemprop="description" content="An avant-garde online clothing boutique.">
<meta itemprop="image" content="http://von-nyc.com/media/VON-purple.png">

SECOND: The columns control is not working. Someone there helped me configure the columns on the page at the time. I think it is in the custom code. I tried to add another but was unsuccessful.

THIRD: When I try to setup UPS it says Unable to parse XML.

1. [-- IF VAR.Secure "yes" --] is probably the key here. Is VAR.Secure being set to "yes" in the template when the secure pages are being loaded? It would look like [-- VAR.Secure "yes"] and not the one with the IF in the tag. If the VAR.Secure is yes then the VAR.URL will be the secure url which should allow this to work.
Any place where an image/javascript include /css is referred to by just http will cause a problem. this might be another problem area <meta itemprop="image" content="http://von-nyc.com/media/VON-purple.png">

2. If it doesn't work by switching the Columns setting on the page then the template would need to be modified to add code that would allow more columns.

3. The UPS error is caused by a change made by UPS in the license agreement that ShopSite displays. See this kbase article about the problem and the fix. http://support.shopsite.com/KBase/questions/2555/
