Publish Button

Postby Gary » Wed Jul 07, 2004 6:20 am

When I make changes to the store and save them the publish button does not
pop up anymore. The changes are saved and I can preview them. If I click
on the store button, it tells me the store hasn't been published since I
made changes, but the only way I can publish the changes is to regenerate
the store in the Utilities area which works fine, but isn't as convenient.

The publish button used to pop up so I am at a loss as to what change I made
to make it stop working.

Any ideas?

What changes are you making?

Note that changes that only affect the shopping cart do not require
Publishing and that changes to custom templates will not trigger a Publish.

No. The changes I am making are product and page changes that do need a
publish. The publish button used to popup and now it doesn't. The only way
to implement the changes is to regenerate the site.

Thanks

You're right. I can click on the spot where the Publish button will be and
it works.

Thanks!

We use custom pages, so we don't use the "Publish" button much. However, I
noticed that its companion button, the "New Orders" button, can be clicked
by
clicking on its area even if it isn't showing. Maybe that will work for
you.

This means that your browser is caching the backoffice screens with the
pop-up image in the down no-publish-needed position, and it is not
refreshing. If you manually refresh your browser after making a change
(in IE I believe you can hit F5 to refresh, in Netscape/Mozilla, hold
down the Shift key while you hit the refresh/reload button with your
mouse) you will probably see the button pop-up. Unless you are on a
dial-up internet connection where you need as much caching as possible
to speed up your download times, you can edit your browser settings so
that it checks for new info more often rather than always displaying
what is in the cache.

This is often caused by your firewall / Norton security software now
blocking referer info or browser information. Check your firewall settings
to make sure you are not blocking this info, which can interfere with
javascript and the buttons at the top of the backoffice from appearing. It
is usually under privacy settings or browser privacy / security in Norton.

There is also a browser setting somewhere that can turn on/off animated
gifs, which is what the Publish and New Order tabs are.
