Send Order Confirmations To Different Address?

Postby Ryan DeLuca » Wed Jan 26, 2005 7:17 pm

Hello!

Right now order confirmations (send to us) and order receipts (sent to
the customer) both use our main e-mail address. The problem is that we
want to change it so that order confirmations get sent to a different
address from the one on the reply-to address on the order receipt.

We get 2000 order confirmations a day sent to us, which is kind of hard
to deal with (we set up Outlook to automatically send these to a
separate folder and then delete them from time to time... we like to
keep them in case a server error deletes current orders and we need to
contact customers who placed an order that was lost... wow, hope that
never really happens). At the same time, if we send them to an address
we don't normally check, then when a customer replies to their order
receipt, which is often, we wouldn't get it.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks!

Why not automatically archive emails in the "separate Outlook folder" that
are older than ___ months?

Actually, we are using a new e-mail ticketing and management service from
LivePerson and the options in Outlook are not available in this new system. So
that won't work unfortunately.

You can use the "Order notifications Cc" field under Preferences -> Hosting
Service to have copies go to other addresses, although the main one will
still get a copy. On the hosting end, you could setup aliases to go to
multiple boxes, or use an advanced server side filter like a procmail rule
or mailserver config to filter based on subject, etc...

Your other option is to create an order API script that handles the emailing
of receipts to accomplish a custom solution.

Thanks for your help! I will research this. Maybe this would be a good new
feature for ShopSite since there must be others who would benefit from being
able to choose a seperate e-mail address for customer service and a seperate
e-mail for receipts.

Thanks!

I may be able to help as far as customers hitting the reply button. I wanted
that eliminated because of viruses and spam.

I created an email address called no-replies@domain.com. This box bounces
any email that is not coming from a local IP. I then use the CC to send the
order email to a box that we access.

At the top of my receipt I say to the customer

****************************
DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL
****************************
If you need customer service, go to http://www.domain.com/service (or
whatever web page has your service content).
